Domaining

How Domaining works, from the drop list to a sold name

Domaining works in four steps. You scan the daily list of expiring domains, read the value score on every name, backorder the names you want or let a rule do it, and sell what you hold through the marketplace, parking and escrow. All four steps live in one workspace on one subscription.

1. Scan the expiring domains list

Every day the list shows names in the last stages of their expiry cycle, with drop date, age, extension and status. You filter it the way you review names: by extension, length, dictionary words, hyphens, digits, age, category and score, and on Pro and higher you save the searches you run every morning.

  • Filters for extension, length, words, hyphens, digits, age, drop date, score and category
  • Saved searches on Pro and higher
  • Watchlists for names you want to follow before they reach the list

2. Score every name before you spend

Each row carries a value score from 0 to 100 and an estimated value band. Open a row to see the drivers: length, dictionary words, extension weight, commercial category, brandability, hyphens and digits, and pronounceability. The score does not replace your judgement. It shortens the list you judge.

  • Value score and value band labelled as an estimate
  • Drivers shown for every score
  • Bulk appraisal by CSV on Portfolio

3. Backorder a name or set a rule

Click Backorder on any row to place a backorder. For daily volume, write a rule once: backorder when the value score is at least 70, the price is at most $69, the extension is .com or .io and the length is at most 10. The rule runs on every new list and places backorders within your monthly limit and, on Portfolio, within the budget you set for that rule.

StatusWhat it means
WatchingThe name is on your watchlist and no backorder is placed yet
ScheduledYour backorder is placed for the expected drop date
Pending dropThe name is in pending delete and about to be released
In auctionSeveral members backordered the name and a private auction is open
WonThe name is registered to your account or you won the member auction
LostThe name went elsewhere or another member won the auction
ReleasedThe previous owner renewed or restored the name, so the backorder closes

Your plan covers the service. When a backorder succeeds you pay the domain's registration fee, the price of the name itself. When several members backorder the same name, it goes to a private auction between them and the winner pays the closing bid.

4. Sell through the marketplace with escrow

List the names you win or already hold with a buy-now price or an offer form. Park them on a clean for-sale page, let buyer matching send you inbound wanted requests, and close every sale through escrow. On Portfolio a broker runs outbound campaigns for the names you choose.

  • Marketplace listings with buy-now or offers
  • Parking with a for-sale page for every name
  • Escrow on every sale with no commission
  • Buyer matching on Pro and higher, brokerage on Portfolio
