Backorders
What is a domain backorder?
A domain backorder is a request to register a name the moment it becomes available again after it expires and is deleted. You place it while the name is still in its expiry cycle, and the backorder shows its status until the name drops and the result is known.
Which statuses can a backorder have?
Watching means the name is on your watchlist and no backorder is placed yet. Scheduled means the backorder is placed for the expected drop date. Pending drop means the name is in pending delete. In auction means several members backordered it. Won means the name is registered to your account or you won the member auction. Lost means the name went elsewhere or another member won the auction. Released means the previous owner renewed or restored the name, so the backorder closes.
What do I pay when a backorder succeeds?
Your plan covers the service. When a backorder succeeds you pay the domain's registration fee, the price of the name itself, and only when the name is on your account. There is no separate fee for a caught name.
What happens when several members backorder the same name?
When several members backorder the same name, it goes to a private auction between them and the winner pays the closing bid. Only members who held a backorder on that name can bid.
Do you guarantee I get a name?
No one can guarantee the result of a drop. The previous owner can renew the name during grace or redemption, and other parties can register it first. You pay the registration fee only when a name is yours, and your plan price stays the same whatever the result.
Can I cancel a backorder?
Yes. A backorder in Scheduled status can be cancelled at any time before the drop. It is removed from your list, and its place returns to this month's limit.
Rules and the expiring list
How do automated backorder rules work?
A rule is a sentence with limits: backorder when the value score is at least Y, the price is at most X, the extension is in your list and the length is at most N. The rule runs on every list update, once a day, and places backorders on the names that match.
Can I set a budget for automated rules?
Yes. Every rule has a maximum price per name and a minimum value score. On Portfolio and Enterprise each rule also has its own monthly budget, and the rule stops placing backorders when the budget is used.
Which extensions can I scan?
Starter covers 30 extensions, including .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai and .co. Pro, Portfolio and Enterprise cover every supported extension, with advanced filters and saved searches.
How often is the expiring list updated?
The list updates every day with names entering the final stages of their expiry cycle, and statuses change as names move from grace to redemption, pending delete and the drop.
How do alerts work?
Add names to a watchlist and Domaining alerts you when a name changes status or gets close to its drop date. Starter sends a daily digest, Pro sends alerts in real time, and Portfolio adds webhooks for your own tools.
Appraisal
How is the value score calculated?
The value score from 0 to 100 combines length, dictionary words, extension weight, commercial category, brandability, hyphens and digits, and pronounceability. The drivers and their direction are published on the domain appraisal page, and every score shows the drivers behind it.
Is the value band a price I can sell for?
No. The value band is an estimate from the scoring formula. It helps you rank names and set rule limits. The price a buyer pays depends on the buyer, the timing and the use they have for the name.
Can I appraise a whole portfolio at once?
Yes. Portfolio includes bulk appraisal by CSV upload, within 10,000 appraisals per month. Pro includes 1,000 appraisals per month with CSV export of the results.
Selling, escrow and parking
How does escrow work on the marketplace?
The buyer pays into escrow, the seller transfers the name, and the payment is released to the seller once the transfer is confirmed. Escrow is included in every plan with no commission on the sale.
Do buyers need a plan to buy a listed name?
No. Buyers purchase listed names through escrow without a subscription. Plans are for members who backorder, appraise, list and sell names.
Can I park names I list?
Yes. Parked names show a clean for-sale page with the price or an offer form, so a visitor who types the name can buy it. Starter parks up to 100 names, Pro up to 2,500 and Portfolio has no cap.
What is buyer matching?
Buyers post wanted requests for the kind of name they need. On Pro and higher, Domaining matches those requests to names you list and sends you the request, so you can answer with a price.
What does brokerage include?
Portfolio includes 3 broker-managed outbound campaigns per month: a broker contacts potential buyers for a name you choose. Enterprise adds a dedicated broker and acquisition desk.
Account and billing
Can my team share one account?
Yes. Pro includes 2 seats and Portfolio includes 5 seats with owner, buyer and viewer roles. Enterprise adds unlimited seats, granular roles, SSO and an audit log.
Is there an API?
Yes. Portfolio includes API access with 50,000 requests per month for the expiring list, scores, appraisals, backorders and watchlists. Enterprise sets custom API limits.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Plans renew monthly or yearly until you cancel, and your plan stays active until the end of the paid period.
Can I try Domaining before I pay?
There is no free plan. The drop scanner and rule tester on the homepage and the value estimator for up to 20 names are a one-time trial that you can use without an account.
How is my data handled?
Your watchlists, rules and backorders are private to your account and are never shown to other members. We collect only what we need to run the service and handle personal data under the GDPR, as described in the privacy policy.
